Week 1: American Psycho

In one of the opening scenes of the movie, "American Psycho", they illustrate the main character as very body consious. My first notice of this is in the second scene at the bar, where the he calls the women ugly- then declaring how he'd like to kill her (which is very extreme). After that scene, we're shown seeing the character in his house where he gives us a play by play of his morning routine. He's very maticulous- the way he described his products and how he uses them, reminded me of current Youtube beauty guru videos. It made me wonder if being so exact and heavy handed when it comes to our self image- if it was ever this pressuring and intense decades ago. He even tells the audience to not use alcohol, "because it dries the skin and makes you age faster." As someone who is very into skincare, this scene within the context of the film made me reflect into my own materialism and my relationship with my own self image.
